 WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Fellow Rotarian,
Accept my warm greetings. Hope you are enjoying the recent days’ moderately cool temperature of Dhaka Weather. Our last Regular Meeting along with Club Assembly was organized in the residence of a Rotary Couple, Mr. & Mrs. Ray. I still remember the taste of the ‘Vapa & Chitai Pitha’ conjoining the real flavor of winter season. I believe the attendees also enjoyed the nice ambience & warm hospitality of the couple. My heartfelt thanks to them for such a goodwill gesture.
My friends, you are already aware that our club is going to adopt a ‘Strategic Plan’ to set our course of actions in the next five years. We are incorporating the Instrument in this issue of our Bulletin for your ready reference and consultation in future. I think the future leaders will be benefitted from this document.
Dear friends, my 1st semi-annual period is going to be over on 31 December 2017. The next half of my Presidency will begin from 1st January 2018. Those who have not yet paid the 1st SAD are requested to pay the same as early as possible to run our activities smoothly and efficiently.
Wishing you and your family members all the good wishes.

informed the meeting that during his presidency he has given 5 lacs taka to the club on the suggestion of some members. It was told that the money will be invested in the share market and the profit will be utilized to meet the deficit in running the club meetings at Westin Venue. But till today he did not get the money returned nor he is aware of the fate of the money invested. But the matter is never being discussed in the club meeting.
 President informed, he does not know about the existence of such a school project. Any decision in the club regarding the matter is beyond his knowledge as he did not receive any note from his predecessor about continuation of such a project from our club.

                                                                          Word from the President
Dear Fellow Rotarian,
Accept my warm greetings. We are nearly half-way through of our journey. In the last five months with the whole hearted support and cooperation of you we have been able to complete 03 service projects. Apart from the regular Club meetings we have organized 03 Board Meeting and 02 Club Assembly. By your generous contribution we have already contributed US $ 2400 to TRF. Though it is not a significant amount for a club like ours, yet I heartily thank to the Donors and the Foundation Recognition Point Contributors alike for their generous contribution. Hope, many will come forward to donate more in the remaining months of the rotary year.
We are regularly updating our club activities in Rotary Club Central. Those who have access to My Rotary can have glimpses of our club information in Club Central & Citation Dashboard. Very soon we are going to update our Club Website. You will find our Club Bulletin & Images of our projects/activities in the website also.
My fervent appeal to all the members, to pay the membership dues on time, so that we can compile all the transactions timely and submit the Accounts as per our commitment. Let’s make our club a place for joy and fun with true fellowship and selfless Service manifesting Rotary: Making a Difference.
With all the good wishes to you and your family members.
Rtn Masudur Rahman, PHF
President, RC Shyamoli-Dhaka

Minutes of the Meeting

  • Meeting was called to order by the President.
  • National Anthem was played by Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray & Rotary Invocation was administered by Rtn Kazi Shamsul Arefin respectively.
  • Welcoming all, Club President informed that a District Grant of Tk 82,000      has been received from the District, for Belotia School Project.  AFUNSOB authority has also requested for a report about the school for their future assistance.
  • Rtn A.K.M Sharfuddin informed that a report has already been submitted to AFUNSOB. But they require detail plan of rehabilitation of the school.
  • Rtn PP Ahmed Kutubuddin pointed out that the land for the school must be finalized first. Before getting any land of our own it will not be wise to go for any construction. He even suggested to form a three member committee to visit the site and submit a report in the next meeting to help finalize the land issue.
  • Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray enquired about the works to be taken with the District Grant Fund and the amount already received from AFUNSOB. These funds are to be utilized in this financial year and accordingly programs to be chalked out.
  • The President informed that, as the two key persons relating to the project viz. Rtn Saifuddin Ahmed & Rtn PP Nuruzzaman Bhuiyan are absent today, he will talk to them and finalize the next course of action.
  •  The President then informed the meeting about some future events of the District especially TRF Seminar. So far, 8 persons have been registered from our Club for the seminar. All the registered participants are requested to attend the venue by 3 PM. The president then introduced a visiting Rotarian from Mymenshing Club who was a guest of Rtn Kazi Shamsul Arefin.
  •  Before the adjournment of the meeting The President declared that the next club assembly followed by regular Club meeting will be held on 27th November at the residence of Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray. • The President then adjourned the meeting and invited the Board Members to be seated for starting the meeting of the Board of Directors.

Board Meeting:
The President announced that Annual General Meeting of the Club will be held on 11th December. He also requested IPP Rtn Naseem Latif Khan to submit the The Club Financial Statement for 2016-17 before the AGM.
  • IPP Rtn Naseem Latif Khan sharply reacted with President’s comment. She informed DG’s check list is an erroneous one and as per manual of procedure there is no obligation for submission of club accounts. Rather she accused club President for non-submission of 2017-18 Club Budget.
  • Club President tried to make her understand that as per check-list it is a mandatory requirement.
  • Rtn PP Quaiyum Khan then took the floor and supported IPP’s view with a comment that we are not bound to follow DG’s instruction. He can’t dictate us. The check list is totally erroneous.
  • Rtn Apurba Kumar Ray tried to inform the meeting that submission of Financial Statements for any RY is a requirement for a club President without which the next president cannot prepare his budget.
  • Club President then concluded that if anything erroneous is there in DG’s check-list which requires his attention, it is better to sit in the club level before taking it to the notice of DG. But any mistake in check-list does not absolve the responsibility of submission of club accounts by a President.
  • The president then adjourned the meeting.
TRF Seminar of District 3281

District TRF Seminar, 2017 was held on 17th November at Hotel Le Meridien, Dhaka. TRF Trustee Chair, Paul A Netzel graced the occasion as the chief guest. Wichai Maneewacharakiet, RRFC- Zone 6B & Aziz Memon AKS, Endowment/ Major Gift Advisor-Zone 6B were present as special guests.
The Rotary Foundation is said to be the lifeline of Rotary International. The fund for humanitarian works of Rotary all over the world is channelized Through TRF. Rotarians and Partners of Rotary donate generously to the foundation to run the activities of Rotary.
This year, District 3281 has set a milestone in donating to TRF. We have found 4 new Arch Klumph Society (AKS) members donating USD 2, 50,000 each. Apart from that 31 new Major Donors each contributing USD 10,000 is a significant achievement in this year’s Seminar. Our Club members has generously contributed USD 2400 to TRF so far. Thanks to DG Arif for his exceptional motivational qualities and thanks to all the donors for their generosity.

1313th Meeting
at The Westin Dhaka on 23 Oct’17

  • The 1313th Meeting was called to order by the President Masudur Rahman, PHF.
  • National Anthem and Rotary Invocation were led by Rtn PP Quaiyum Khan and Rtn Kala Chand Mondal, respectively.
  • The President informed the meeting Rtn Seraji had a heart attack at the office and his colleague took him to United Hospital. He was diagnosed of block at heart which was taken care and stenting was done. He is recovering and President invited all to pray for his speedy recovery.
  • Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray made an appeal to all the members to be present in the ensuing Diabetes Screening Program scheduled on 27 0ct’ 17 & a Flyer, elaborating the program was circulated to all the members. He pointed out that the program is being organized by Zone-10. AS the Zone Chair and Committee Chair for Disease Prevention & Treatment are from our Club, so RC Shyamoli-Dhaka should have a pioneering role in the event. With this perspective he called for maximum participation from the club. The Club President also echoed his appeal.
  • President declared that AFUNSOB (Association of Former United Nations Staff of Bangladesh) has donated Tk. 95,000 to help run our School project at Belutia. President thanked the organization for recognizing the humanitarian activities of RC Shyamoli-Dhaka. The meeting lauded the role of Club Secretary, Rtn Sharfuddin for taking-up the issue with AFUNSOB who extended us the help.
  • President then informed about TRF Seminar and appealed for contribution from the club members. He invited the members to declare their pledges as the seminar date is very close. The Pledging runs as:
  •  Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray informed of his contribution of US Dollar 400 to TRF after his PHF recognition and he is now recognized as PHF+1. He further mentioned that Shyamoli Club has 22 PHF. If the existing PHF members wish to become MPHF, nearly USD 10,000 could be raised. Even if they come up with point sharing system, a minimum of $ 5,000 could be raised. Rtn PP Anwar Hossain confirmed contribution of USD 100 and appealed minimum contribution of USD 100 by each member which would amount to USD 4,500 for TRF. Rtn Kala Chand Mondal and Rtn PP DD Ghosal pledged to contribute USD 100 each to the TRF. Rtn PP Kutub Uddin declared that his spouse Rtn. Parveen Ahmed will be a PHF through point sharing system.

Rtn PP Quaiyum Khan elaborated on club activities and TRF contribution and thanked members for cooperating with President in implementation of service projects and he is doing well. This is a good sign for the club. Contribution to TRF is very personal and depends on the will of the contributor. Somebody can be motivated but we can’t make it a binding on anybody. He informed that in the last few years we have made even $ 10 contribution for each member and got EREY recognition. We can try per capita $ 10 this year also.
Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray informed the meeting that to achieve EREY recognition each member of the club is to pay minimum US $ 25 each and the average contribution of all the members must be US $ 100 per capita. So $10 contribution is very insignificant in respect of EREY Recognition or achieving this year’s contribution goal.
Rtn PP Quaiyum Khan further continued that few days back there was a seminar on International Day of Peace hosted by Zone -10. But what Shyamoli Dhaka did get from this seminar. There was no banner displaying club name. Even the Zone Chair who happened to be our club member was not seen on the Dias. Some club president conducted the meeting. This was not befitting to our club.

SEMINAR ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
President requested Rtn PP Apurba Kumar Ray to say a few words about the Seminar on International Day of Peace as a participant of the event. He informed the meeting that, this Year’s International Day of Peace was jointly observed by RI District 3281 & BIISS authority (Bangladesh Institute of International & Strategic Studies). District Governor entrusted the responsibility of organizing the event on Zone-10, Dhaka. The Seminar was a successful one with Dr. Gowher Rizvi, advisor to the PM as the chief guest. It was noteworthy in many respects. The dignitaries present (national & international), high level discussion, media coverage, entertainment etc. were appreciated by all. Rtn M. M Abedullah, Zone Chair sponsored the total cost of the lunch. The participants and the District Governor appreciated Zone chair for successful completion of the event and lauded his magnanimity. So he suggested viewing the event in a positive attitude and appreciating those who have taken the trouble of organizing such a mega event.
Rtn. Kutub Uddin Ahmed informed that as Committee Chair of the Peace & Conflict Resolution he had a close touch with the venue decoration & other activities of the event. There was limitation of hanging a banner as mentioned by Rtn. Quaiyum Khan. But the program was a successful one in all respect.
Rtn N. C Sarker informed that Rtn M. M Abedullah discussed with him well ahead of the program, that he is not interested to sit in the Dias rather likes to give the opportunity to somebody, who can better perform in conducting an event of this stature. May be this is a reflection of his modesty & generosity.
At the fag end of the meeting Rtn. Nuruzzaman Bhuiyan & Rtn. Saifuddin Ahmed joined the meeting. They reported that they were delayed as they went to hospital to visit our ailing friend Rtn Ismail Hossain Seraji.
President thanked them and adjourned the meeting.

DIABETES SCREENING PROGRAM OF THE RI DISTRICT 3281 ON 27TH OCTOBER, 2017 AT MOHAMMADPUR PREPARATORY GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE

Zone-10, Dhaka of RI District 3281 has successfully completed a 'Diabetes Screening Program on 27th October, 2017 at Mohammadpur Preparatory Girls' High School & College. Nearly 250 people availed the screening along with Blood Pressure Checking and free medical advice. Shyamoli Club is a member of this zone.

Today (on Monday the 24 October 2016), Rotary Club of Shyamoli-Dhaka has its scheduled meeting at the Westin.
Rtn PP Kutubuddin in his deliberations highlighted area of focuses emphasized during their training (Rtn IPP Apurba K Ray, Rtn PP Quaiyum Khan, Rtn PP MM Abedullah and himself) they had under the sponsorship of Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI).
In this meeting Mr. M Ismail Hossain Seraji has been inducted as Rotarian and member of the club. President heartily thanked all members for their kind presence and active participation in the deliberation and execution of club business.
Here are some glimpses of the meeting:

6th Meeting on Oct0ber 10th, 2016 at 6:30pm at The Westin Dhaka

This meeting was held without our regular video blogger. However, the meeting was enlivened with the visit of several guests and visiting Rotarians from home and abroad. Rtn. Khairul of RC Dilkusha visited the club. He is quite resourceful and produced the Rotary Invocation on the back of his Rotary visiting card. Rtn. Khairul was full of Rotary information about the projects of the clubs in the District and Rotary information in general. The international Rotary visitor was the President Elect of RC Kulai in Dist. 3310 of Malaysia. He had arrived in Dhaka as a part of an export delegation. He attended with his friend, whose group had just received a Commonwealth science award for inventing a device that attract and kills all Addis mosquitos in a 50 meter range. This mosquito hosts Dengue, Zika, and Chikune? virus. The Presiedent Elect sells water purification solution and herbal cosmetics.

5th Meeting on September 26th, 2016 at 6:30pm at The Westin Dhaka

4th Meeting on September 5th, 2016 at 6:30pm at The Westin Dhaka.

The 4th Meeting of the Club had a 88% percent attendance. The majority of the meeting was expended to discuss the success of the 30th Installation Ceremony with some observations for future planning. Every member present spoke on the program and its overall quality. In some members it inspired the desire to be even better.

The main observations noted the unique and innovative use of Banners to decorate the walls with a timeline of the Club, the 4-Way Test, The Rotary Foundation and its End Polio Drive, Lifesize portrait of Paul Harris and his Statue, the District Governor and First Lady. It was felt if a promenade could have been provided then guests and members could have strolled more comfortably around the displays.

The Souvenir was excellent in a short notice of just 72 hours. There were some errors due to inexperience and Rotary knowledge.

The Food was excellent and catered to all needs and taste.
The Master of Ceremony performed well and maintained good time. We ended just 20 minutes out of time. Although, we started 35 minutes later.

4 major speeches were given and listened to with attention and the Chief Guest speech was heard in complete silence followed by a spontaneous standing ovation. You can see the videos below.

2nd Meeting August 8, 2016

Club in Action:  at Belotia Primary School

The Seasonal floods have been somewhat more severe than the previous years. Belotia is a river polder which has risen several years ago. People whose homes have been broken and washed into the river several years ago have inhabited this island(char) for about 6 years. There are 200 families in this piece of land. The families earn their living through daily labour in agriculture or construction. At times of flood they are severely affected because work stops and they have no income. The Club decided to help by providing basic staples for 10 days to tide them over this period of unemployment. We also gifted a permanent bucket, that will remain with the families for many years.

The Club also runs a Primary School in the community, which has very enthusiastic students and surprisingly bright teachers with University Degrees. The Government in the locality is co-operative and we can look forward to the Government taking over the school officially in 3-5 years. In the meantime, the Club continues to grow the school and encourage the parents to come up with a permanent area for the school.

The current expenditure in the school is approximately Tk. 1,00,000 per year and as a class grows every year with inflation the cost is increasing at approximately Tk.60,000 per annum.

1st Meeting of 2016-17 on July 18,2017
 at The Westin Dhaka

We have a dedicated President, as usual. She returned to the country from a trip to USA the night before to conduct the first meeting. As usual the club progresses every year with technology and level of sophistication of its programs. This year video is going to be a large part of the technology upgrade. Flexibility shall be another adjustment. The Rotarly Council on Legislations have allowed greater flexibility in membership participation requirements. The club has embraced these opportunities. The compulsory meetings have been reduced to 2 meetings per month. The club has completed the formalities to hold its meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month. It is also planning to make it possible for members to attend through electronic and internet media. Club meeting may be webcast in the short future. Exciting times and exciting opportunities. These changes have given an immediate benefit of reducing the cost of membership in our club from Tk. 50,000 to Tk. 25,000. This has excited our older members to be more generous in projects and made it easier for aspiring and capable young professionals to join our club.

The optimism is palpable and the 30th Installation is in planning. The Video of the 1st meeting follows:
